Your ductwork carries every bit of heated and cooled air in your home. The choice between rigid metal ducts and flexible ducts affects airflow, efficiency and how long the system lasts.
Metal ductwork
Rigid galvanized sheet metal is smooth inside, so air moves with less resistance. It's durable, easy to clean and resists pests. It costs more to fabricate and install, but it's the standard for main trunk lines.
Flex ducts
Flexible duct is a wire coil wrapped in plastic and insulation. It's quick to install in tight spots, but kinks, sags and long runs choke airflow. Used in short, straight, well-supported runs it works fine.
Our approach
Grove fabricates custom sheet metal for trunks and most branch runs, and uses flex only where it makes sense. If rooms are uneven or your system is noisy, poorly installed flex is a frequent culprit.
Frequently Asked Questions
+Is metal ductwork worth the cost?
For main runs, yes. Better airflow and a longer life usually outweigh the higher upfront price.
+Can flex duct be replaced with metal?
Yes. We regularly replace sagging flex runs with metal duct to fix weak airflow.
